From 1 January 2024, Papendrecht-based Fortune Family B.V. will take over Paper Art's operations. Both see opportunities to merge off- and online qualities and optimise operations. Part of Fortune Family is Fortune Factory, which already includes several web shops aimed at the (business) gifts market. Paper Art has had a physical presence in the market since 1985 with sales outlets at around 1,900 locations inside and outside the Netherlands.

Say it with flowers
Paper Art has made a name for itself with occasion cards. To be found on the counter or in shelves or mills at florists, garden centres, petrol stations etc. In recent years, this range has expanded to include special gifts for special occasions such as Valentine's Day and Christmas and gift items for birthdays, Father's and Mother's Day, etc.

Shelf and mill
Partly due to Corona (direct shop closure) and the growth of (online) competition, Paper Art saw the market change. Also, the pressure on margins and positions in 'shelf and mill' became too great.

Substantial investments were made in, among others, an online webshop and an online app. to simplify the ordering process.

Reflection
Daniel Schechtl, sales director of Paper Art, feels happy about the acquisition. "For the family, it was not an easy decision. My father started the company in 1985. He is now 77, but continued working until he was 70. In 2017, I was able to take over with Martje. After six enjoyable years, it was time for reflection. Believe me, a family business takes everything out of you. Most importantly, with this takeover, we offer Paper Art a healthy future perspective.

We owe this to ourselves, and it is with great confidence that we are handing over the family business. My wife Martje is retiring at the moment; she wants to make more time for our children. I myself have committed myself to supervising the transition - for as long as it takes. For now, I can get on with the energy that Fortune Family brings in. Their fresh perspective on this market and all the plans in place really make me look forward to this new phase. Great to be part of the Family!"

Fortune Family
"The acquisition of Paper Art fits perfectly into our growth strategy and allows us to further strengthen our offering," said Peter van Dommelen, Managing Director of Fortune Family B.V. "Paper Art has an impressive track record in terms of their sustainable cards and gifts. We are eager to integrate their talent and know-how into our company."

"We believe this acquisition will strengthen our position in the market and create new opportunities for growth and development" adds Daniel. "Together with Fortune Family, we look forward to a successful and promising future."

Paper Art management
The management of Paper Art will be conducted by Peter van Dommelen (far left) and Erik Jan Gulden (2nd from left) of Fortune Family. Martje and Daniel Schechtl on the right.

The company, involved employees and agents will remain accessible via existing telephone numbers and email addresses.
